North Star Jazz Ensemble & CommonGround Recordings
The North Star Jazz Ensemble was the 'House Band' for the North Star Music recording company from 1985 to 2011. The group includes Bruce Abbott on saxophone & flute, Ron Fournier on piano, Marty Ballou on bass and Paul Mason on drums. Special guests on our recordings have included guitarist Gray Sargent (Tony Bennett), trumpeter John Allmark (Liza Minelli), harmonica player Mike Turk, trombonist Artie Montanaro, guitarist Steve DeConti and many others. And beginning with "Romancing the Sax" we paired our ensemble with strings.
With the addition of guitarist Peter Calo (Carly Simon, Linda Eder, New York Voices) we formed CommonGround and produced recordings in a contemporary jazz style.
The band recorded a dozen CDs for the label that have sold over 300,000 copies. Some titles are still available as CDs and can be purchased below directly from us, the artists.
